Australian Citizenship

Camila Carcamo, October 2026

Look, I don’t know if I have the words to describe everything I am feeling right now. I don’t know if I have done many things right in my life, but when I look around, I must have done something good. I must be somewhat of a decent human being.

Yesterday I became a citizen of Australia. My third citizenship, yet the one that feels the most honest and closest to my heart, because it is the one I actually had to work for, day in and day out. A choice, not a coincidence or the labour of my ancestors.

This one is on me. Is it on me? Well, look around. I was there the whole journey, so yes, I do thank the very young Camila of 19 years old who immigrated by herself, and every other version of Camila up to the one today, at only 28, for achieving this.

However, yet again, look around. If you have gotten to know me and shared a long chat with me, you know you will get stuck hearing all about the incredible people that are part of my life, or the people that have touched my life in some way. All the masters and teachers I have had, and how I am a piece of everything they did with me and for me. This includes the “bad” people, as some might see them; they were incredible passengers in my life too.

But today, let’s focus on the ones I received this moment with. I thought I was just going to my favourite restaurant, and when I arrived, they were all there. All organised to surprise and celebrate me. And it didn’t stop there: they had a party bus waiting, and we ended up dancing our way through multiple bars. It is a room of people I admire, each for their own magic. I truly see magic in the rooms I get to walk into daily. I have been diligent in keeping beautiful people around, and now I get the fortune of entering rooms I struggle to ever want to leave, because I am acutely aware of the beauty that sits in that room.

All this to say: did I do it? Or was I carried by the joy and generosity of the people around me, who made me feel safe and at home?

It’s a crazy situation to feel this way so young, to feel so full so young. I am very aware of how incredibly confusing that feels to me in the nights when the house is quiet, and I sit alone and think, “I still have 75 more years of this.” I’m only getting started, and I already have a full heart. It makes me wonder: what kind of creation comes from a source of joy like this one? I’m curious to find out.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. Grateful, in awe, genuinely aware of the lucky nature of the life I got dealt, one that has allowed me to build rooms full of magic.

Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi!
